With nearly 90 teams competing for the title of Grand Champion, the VA BBQ Championships was quite the draw for spectators. People were encouraged to walk through the BBQ site to chat with the head cooks about their ‘que techniques. Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational 2013 Grand Champion, Tuffy Stone of Cool Smoke, was in attendance as a competitor. The seasoned veteran placed third in the Rib Division, second in the Pork Division and fourth in the Brisket division for a successful day, taking home just over $1,000 in prize money.

The big winner of the day was Chix, Swine & Bovine BBQ of Jessup, MD, who took home the title of Grand Champion. The team also captured third place in the Chicken Division, first place in the Ribs Division, third place in the Pork Division and second place in the Brisket Division for combined prize money of $4,600. Wolf’s Revenge BBQ finished strong as both the Reserve Grand Champion and the VA State Champion, and KIRBBQ cleaned up in the Amateur Division with the title of Grand Champion and first place in the Chicken Division.
